About the Paramedic Program

Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide advanced emergency medical care in the pre-hospital setting

As a licensed paramedic, you will work as the highest level of the prehospital care team and may find employment with a fire department, private ambulance service, third city service, hospital, or other operation. The Paramedic Program includes classroom didactic, practical laboratory, in-hospital clinical, and pre-hospital field internship to prepare you to sit for the National Registry Paramedic Licensure Examination upon successful completion of the program.

  • EMTs  most often work in the prehospital setting for ambulance agencies, park service, or fire departments

  • Many students use their EMT and Paramedic training as an introduction to a variety of other medical fields, such as: registered nurse, ER Technician, respiratory therapist, physician's assistant, or physician

To be eligible for the Paramedic Program, potential candidates must have the following:

  1. Current California EMT certification
  2. Current California Driver's license
  3. Current CPR card
  4. 3-6 months of EMT experience (prehospital preferred)
  5. Attendance at one of the mandatory information meetings
  6. Completion of EMT 104 (with a C or better)
    • EMT 104 is a hybrid course offered in both Spring and Fall semesters and is open to students who have already completed EMT 100 or an equivalent EMT basic program. If you took EMT at another institution, please follow the  to enroll in this course.
  7. Completion of BIOL 106 (or equivalent college-level Anatomy & Physiology course with lab)(with a C or better).

Note: All prerequisites must be completed by the application due date. Applications are due on May 31st each year.

Other recommended preparation: ECGT 101 (or other ECG interpretation course)

Information Meeting Entrance Exam

  • If you are interested in the Paramedic program, you must first attend one of the mandatory information meetings. Dates and times for information meetings are found in the Paramedic Program Flyer. 

Program Application

Applications for the Paramedic Program will be accepted in May each year. You must attend one of the mandatory information sessions to learn more about the prerequisites and application process. 

The application will include the following:

  • Online completion of full 亚洲疯情 Paramedic program application information, including personal statements
  • Copies of CA EMT certification, California driver's license, and CPR card (healthcare provider level)
  • Unofficial transcripts (attached in the application online) showing grades in EMT 104 (with a C or better) and BIOL 106 (with a C or better)
  • Recommendations from two individuals through an online survey link sent directly to the recommender by the applicant

Transfer Options

The program coursework you complete at City College will satisfy lower-division requirements for related majors at several colleges and universities.
